Help Me
give my Potbellies the best, not of food or treats, but
of myself, cherishing them on good days and bad, theirs
or mine.
Teach Me
to accept them for who they are not for what they do,
to look at their actions, if only so they will accept
me, to encourage their individuality, and please, let
me laugh and be silly with them, not at them.
Let Me
give them a home where respect is enough to be a cornerstone
of a foundation and a mutual agreement.
May I
give them the courage to be true to themselves, the independence
to be themselves and enough trust in myself to believe
in a power much greater than mine or their own.
See That
I discipline my Potbellies without demeaning them, demand
good manners without harshness and let them know that
they have limitless love and respect, no matter what they
do.
Let Me
feed them properly, water them adequately and still have
enough to give them small treats, not for what they do,
but for the pleasure they bring. Let me be moderate in
all these things, so the joy of getting will help them
realize they are loved and cherished.
See That
their needs and wants are real and not burdensome, that
I as the caregiver have expectations that are high and
thoughtful.
Help Me
teach them that commitment is love's real reward and when
it comes, let me revel in each heart as part of their
accomplishment.
Above All,
let me teach these animals so well that I can dare to
let them go, and they will survive, and keep a part of
my love in their hearts, as you bless and keep them safe
and free from harm.
